// Forestry Bioenergy Decision Support Systems //
We work on solutions for complex forest management questions focusing on harvesting activities, and biomass supply to use biomass efficiently, and optimize work activities. Use alternatives, including bioenergy options, can be modelled to assess economical, social and ecological effects.

Working area

We are a young 'forest operation think-tank', working on forest biomass production systems that are silvicultural managed under continuous cover forestry (CCF) principles as well we are working on forest plantation systems including short rotation coppice (SRC).

We aim to understand, and following to minimize impacts from forest operations to the environment and to work forces by carefully analyzing operational conditions and developing adjusted operation concepts. This not only includes an adaptation of existing harvesting concepts, but as well the development and engineering of appropriate forest machine components.

Forest operation planning is a major aspect in our daily work. Via applying methods of operations research (OR) we are able to optimize work activities, e.g. in terms of minimizing green house gas (GHG) emissions caused by forest operations. This is significantly contributing to produce eco-friendly products based on forest biomass with an increased energy efficiency and a reduced carbon footprint.
